Presentation Reflection

video

OK, This is my "Ghost Towns" presentation I had to do for 5pd. I have some question to fill out, here they are!

Did you stand up straight but stay relaxed?
I did stand up but I was not that relaxed.

Did you pause for a moment before you began your speech?
I did pause for a moment, it helped a lot.

Did you look at your audience?
It hard not to look at the audience. They were all staring at me!

Did you let your facial expressions naturally reflect what you were saying?
I didn't pay much attention to my facial expressions, I paid a lot of attention to my hand motions though.

Did you use your hands?
I did use my hands.

For each of the following questions, describe what went well and what you could improve in the area of VOICE. Write two complete sentences for each question.

Did you speak loudly enough so that everyone could hear you?
I tried to speak very loudly and clearly. I had about 50 eyes staring at me so I did the best I could.

Did you change your tone to show how you felt (upset, excited) about an idea or to emphasize a point?
I did change the sound of my voice to demonstrate feeling. When I was talking about people dying I made my voice sound sad.

Was your speed of delivery too fast, too slow or just right?
I don't know if was going to fast or to slow. I mostly paid attention to knowing what I had to say and using hand motions.

General questions:
Write two complete sentences for each question.

Did you practice your speech at home before giving it?
Mr. B. will be angry with me but I did not. With teachers piling a ton of paperwork on 8th graders I didn't have time to.

What did you notice that you did well in your speech?
I noticed the I walked around a lot and I used hand motions. Most of the other people that presented just stood in one place.

Describe one aspect of public speaking you will work to improve?
I will try to improve not being do nervous. I think once I get over that I will be fine.

Interview

For my interview:
I interviewed Peggy (The co-owner of EDDY'S)

1. What was your inspiration?
"I started sewing when I was very young, at age 8. I also went to college and started to paint clothing."

2. Your designs are very unique, Do you make a sketch first or do you have inspiration hit as you go along?
"I don't do a sketch first, It just comes to me."

3. How do you know which parts of T-shirts will be perfect for your designs?
"I don't know, I have different pieces of T-shirts that I use, it just happens."

4. What made you want to open the store EDDY'S?
"Me, Harriet, and Ronnie just wanted to, and Harriet used to sell my work before the store was opened."

5. How do you know which accents and accessories to put on your designs?
"I just kinda think of it as a collage, I just lay my design down and put what think will be perfect on it. I also go to the thrift stores and use whatever I think looks cool. It's like recycling!"

6. Did you go to a design school or start on your own?
"Well, I studied art at college, and I am a trained artist, not designer. I also used to teach at design schools."

7.What is the main feeling behind the designs?
"I would have to say, being individual. As you can see, none of my designs are the same, they are all different!"

Reflection #9

OH MY GOD!!!!! I am sooooooooo excited. Showcase Day is just aroun dthe corner! I am so scared. I plan to have my table decorated in an awesome way. I am hoping to have some spare T-shirts from EDDY'S for decoration. I want to have a computer that has the EDDY'S website on it. Then I just need to borrow 2 mannequins from any local store. WOW!!!! I am so nervous!!!!

Reflection #8

I hate the end of the year. Teachers pile a ton of work on you and expect it done by a very short deadline. Not everyone can handle it. Like only 1 out 15 can do it on time. I am happy I chose a project that was basically finished except for the writing parts. I heard one person was making a hover chair, I feel sorry for him!

The last couple of days have been weird. Time is flying by fast and we are starting to get sites Showcase Day. I finally have an interview finished. I am so happy!!!!! I have everything I need except for some mannequins. I'm going to go talk to the local stores and see if I can borrow or rent two of them. I don't reallt have everything done writing-wise. I just need to do 3 more reflections and type my interview. Then I will be done!!!!

Many say art comes from an inner feeling that the artist is having, or maybe a memory, or a wish. The creation of art has been around since the dawning of time. Fashion is a form of art that is wearable to anyone (Unless its super expensive). From the animal skin togas of the cavemen to the elegant silk, pastel colored dresses of the baroque period to the crazy cotton leg-warmers we have now. The store EDDY'S, on 1st street, Langley, brings a whole new look at T-shirts. With the help of local artists, putting all kinds of art on T-shirts, making a new statement to the world. For my 8th grade project I have made 2-3 T-shirts with EDDY'S help and some necklaces I have made with the rocks and shells in the Puget Sound. There are over 25 artists that have contributed their works of art to EDDY'S, I am proud to be one of them. Every artist has either a website, or statement on the EDDY'S website. I will use what they say about their art as some help for this writing piece.
Anna Graves, who is Harriet (The co-owner of EDDY'S) daughter was just bored and got to drawing. For awhile she started adding on to it and when she was finished she dropped it off at EDDY'S. From this I see that art can come from any feeling even if it is accidental. To portray a feeling on a piece of paper or a canvas takes emotion. To show a feeling on piece of clothing takes both emotion and guts. To know that people will be taking it everywhere and everyone they walk by is exciting yet a nervous feeling. Using paint and colors is not the only form of art, there is also music. Robbie Cribs is also an artist that contributes to EDDY'S, his shirt is music. It is clear enough for anyone can read and play this piece of art. The inspiration of his work is unknown to me.
The wonderful pieces of art on the T-shirts at EDDY'S are good enough to put in any fine art store. The diversity of art in the store is like America today, differences in people and attitude. All different ones put together in one store. I chose to work with the people from EDDY'S because they are nice and sweet people, and because they think that art should be shown to everyone by a form of clothing, like me. My inspiration comes from my personal feelings about something, like if I hear a good song, movie, or landscape. The best thing about being an artist is expressing yourself in anyway (like hair!!!!) and having fun doing it!
